PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- Velma E. VanNatta, 90, of Platteville, died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011, at Southwest Health Center Hospital, Platteville.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at Melby-Bendorf Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, with Luther Raine officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Velma was born on July 7, 1921, in Platteville Township, daughter of Adolph and Edith (Suhr) Chase. She married Leonard VanNatta on July 28, 1937, in Davenport, Iowa; he preceded her in death in 1972.

Velma worked as a nurse's assistant at Gray's Nursing Home, Platteville. She also worked as a bookkeeper at the Avalon Theatre and VanNatta and Sons Milk Hauling and provided home care.

She enjoyed ice skating and crocheting.

Surviving are her daughter, Sharon Carpenter, of East Dubuque, Ill.; a daughter-in-law, Judy VanNatta, of Platteville; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a sister, Ruth Hughes, of Potosi; and a sister-in-law, Doris Chase, of Platteville.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Marlyn, on Jan. 1, 2010; a brother, Lawrence Chase; and a sister, Helen VanNatta.
