Diane A. Benson Funk passed away on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, in American Falls after a courageous battle with brain cancer.

Diane was the first out of four children born to Don and Alene Benson on July 28, 1944. She was raised in the Rockland Valley where she also attended school and
later graduated from Rockland High School where she was active in dance programs, plays, cheerleading, drill captain of the Rockland Rocketts and was also class president. She was named Power County Junior Miss in 1962. She later competed in the Idaho Junior Miss, where she won the title of Miss Personality.

She married Melvin Funk on Sept. 28, 1962. They made their home in the Pleasant Valley area of American Falls where they farmed for over 30 years. Mel and Diane had four children. They later divorced.

She was a very devoted mother and homemaker. She has been an active member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority for 47 years. Her hobbies included cooking, tole painting, crocheting, reading, attending Christian Women?s Club and bible study. She was a member of the St. John?s Lutheran Church for 47 years. She enjoyed her last years actively farming with her two sons, spending time with her children and grandchildren and living life.

She was a loving companion and friend to Karl Mauch for over 15 years.

She helped many people affected with cancer through her helping hand and listening ear. Just sharing her story inspired people through their battle.

She was a true, caring and trusted friend and the best mother in the whole world. Her kindness and love will never be forgotten. She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her mother, Alene Benson; two sons, Monty (Carolene) Funk and Lance (Lisa) Funk, all of American Falls; a daughter, Tara (Justin) Pyne of Pocatello; two brothers, Stan (Pam) Benson of Las Vegas, NV, and Steve (Terry) Benson of American Falls; and nine grandchildren, Tyson, Tanner, Colby, Chase,Tasha, Parker, Gracie, Megan and Jared.

She was preceded in death by her father, Don Benson; her son, Brad Funk; and sister, Donna Schofield.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 23, at St. John's Lutheran, 656 Tyhee Avenue in American Falls with Pastor Michael H. Dismer officiating. Interment will follow in Fallsview Cemetery in American Falls.

The funeral services are under the direction of
Davis-Rose Mortuary.
