Leonard W. Hoellein, 88, of Redfield, SD died Friday, August 13, 2010 at Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls.

His funeral will be Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Redfield. Reverend Stephen Perry will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield. Visitation will be Monday from 1-8:00 p.m. with a Masonic service at 7:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. www.thelenfuneralhome.com Leonard's family prefers memorials directed to the Redfield Senior Citizens Center.

Leonard was born June 11, 1922 near Athol, SD to George and Jessie (Wilkins) Hoellein. He attended school in Athol before he started farming. Leonard married Bonnie Jackson March 4, 1944 in Redfield. They farmed in the Athol area until 1956 when they moved to California and Leonard worked for Fruehauf Trailers and Douglas Aircraft. In 1959, they moved back to the farm and continued farming until he retired in 1974 and moved into Athol. They moved to Redfield in 1985.

Leonard enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and playing cards.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Odd Fellows, United Methodist Church and Redfield Senior Citizens.

Leonard is survived by his son Wayne (Judy) Hoellein of Chamberlain, SD; his grandson Daniel (Jennifer) Hoellein of Copperas Cove, TX and their daughter Abby. He is also survived by his brother Glenn (Eileen) Hoellein of Athol.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bonnie in 2005, a daughter Jeanne and his sister Geraldine Siebrecht.
