Robert Adney Long, 95, a resident of Deming, New Mexico passed away Monday, August 29, 2011. 17 days before his 96th birthday.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at 10:30 in the morning at Baca's Funeral Chapel, Deming New Mexico, with Don Heacox, Vicar, of St. Luke's Episcopal Church conducting the service. A private, family interment will take place later in the week at South Park Cemetery in Roswell, New Mexico.

Robert was born September 15, 1915 in the State of Texas. He was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Long three months after his birth. Raised in Raton and Hatch New Mexico he always felt The Land of Enchantment was his true home.
He served his country honorably in the United States Amy from 1934 though 1937. Three years after his discharge he married his wife, Margaret Lee Mahres at the Mesilla Park Episcopal Church on July 29, 1939.

Following in his father's footsteps, Robert was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad and lived and raised his family in Roswell, New Mexico. His job as a lineman called him out of his home in all types of brutal weather and required many nights away from his family. As with most members of the "greatest generation" his first obligation was to provide for his family and the second obligation was to serve his employer with honesty and integrity. Robert did both of these all of his life.

Upon retirement Robert became an avid golfer and traveler, visiting many places in the United States and Europe. He enjoyed his retirement and remained in excellent health for many years.
He moved to Deming four years ago to live near Wayne and Martha Long, his son and daughter-in-law, who gave him many pleasant days with their near-by family and friends. He was a resident of Arroyo Vista Assisted Living and was a favorite of the staff who gave him loving attention and care.

Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife Margaret, son Robert Wayne, and parents and by his second wife, Vivian Dees Long.
He is survived by a son, Larry Long (Rhonda) of Santa Rosa, California, a daughter, Linda McCulley (George) of Reno, Nevada, daughter-in-law, Martha Long of Deming, grandchildren: Pamela Jo, Travis, Amy, Matthew, Amy and Steven along with their spouses and six great-granddaughters
