Martin was a son of Major Martin and Mary (White) White (With their marriage two separate WHITE lines merged). In 1871 they moved as a family from White County, TN to Lampasas, TX where Martin was later born. He received his early education there, and was an 1895 graduate of the Centenary College. He was a graduate of UT Law School and was admitted to the Bar in 1898, the same year he became the Lampasas County Attorney for two terms.

In 1899 in Kyle, TX he married REGUINA JEAN "Jean" (CARPENTER), daughter of Dr. John Clayton Carpenter and Margaret Louise (Rector) of Kyle.

In early 1900 he commissioned some of the neighboring Casbeer family, well-known masons in the area, to build a two-storey, native stone homestead on a high limestone hill northeast of downtown Lampasas, off of what was Gatesville Rd, overlooking a fork of the Lampasas River. This land was part of a tract his parents had owned and lived on, and where there was a lime kiln in their day. Martin and his family, including his parents, moved into their new home in 1908. They resided there until 1916, when Martin was appointed District Attorney and they moved to Belton, TX, where they remained through the 1950s.

With a private practice in Belton and Temple, Martin served in various district seats the rest of his life and when he retired in 1957 he had been the City Judge of Belton.

The White homestead in Lampasas has changed hands two or three times since, and exists today as a feature landmark of Lampasas. Below this homestead is the natural stone homestead of John Markward, who at age 46, still single, married Martin White's older sister, Adelphia Florence White. Their children were born and raised in the Markward homestead, below the White homestead, and the two families share the small family cemetery in Lampasas, on what used to be part of the Markward property.

Children of Martin and Jean (Carpenter) White:
Todd Rector White (1900, TX - 1984, TX)
Florence White (1901, TX - 1940, TX)
John Carpenter White (1903, TX - 1979, NC)
Dr. Martin Marshall White (1904, TX - 1980, KY)
Forrest Woodson "Woodson" White (1906, TX - 1989, TX)
Bon Jeanette "Bonnie Jean" White (1908, TX - 1989, TX)
Dudley Barrier "Barry" White (1926, TX - 1989, TX)

(Biographical material provided by Annette (Langley) Markward, wife of John Markward, great grandson of John and Adelphia (White) Markward of Lampasas. Adelphia was a sister to Martin White.)
