JOHN BIRKETT DIES SUDDENLY
Well Known Resident of Hazel Green Expires at His Home Late Tuesday Afternoon
Taken Ill While at His Farm and Cause of Death Believed Heart Trouble
John Birkett died at his home in Hazel Green, Grant Co., WIs., Tuesday afternoon at 4:45 o'clock. Mr. Birkett was presumably as well as he had been at any time in his life and was down town in the afternoon. About three o'clock he went to his farm about a quarter of a mile from his residence with his son Oscar. He was in the act of stepping off some ground when he felt ill so he sat down until he would feel better. His son noticing that his father was not acting natural persuaded him to return home. A physician was called and assisted Mr. Birkett from a chair to a couch. As he was walking from the chair to the couch he made the remark that he was feeling better and would not give up. Before an injection could be give he passed away. The cause of his death is attributed to heart trouble.
Mr. Birkett was well known in Galena. He was a member of the Hazel Green Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Galena Commandery B. K. No. 40 and a member of the Tebala Shrine at Rockford, Ill.
He was born in England seventy-two years ago and came to this country with his parents when very young. He was married twice, his first wife being Miss Jennie Shelliam, the second, who survives him, Miss Katherine Jackson. Six children were born to the first wife, four of whom survive their father, Oscar, Hazel Green; Mrs. Frank Pearce, Hazel Green; Clyde, Minneapolis, Minn., and Mrs. Charles Cook of Apple River, Ill. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at two o'clock. It is understood that a number of Galena Commandery K. T. will attend the funeral in a body.
