You spoke little of your parents, more of your older sister - a relationship I can only describe as unhealthy and damaging. You were evacuated from blitzed London in childhood, aged 11, if I remember. You married but had no children. Your wife, by your own account, and hers, stuck by you through numerous infidelities. I met both of you in 1981. She divorced you in 1983. In 1987, she died of cancer. Sadly, by that time, you were involved in serious criminal activity, which escalated to a point beyond your tolerance level: you were not psychologically able to do what was asked of you; you couldn't do anything harmful to a child. You confessed the worst to me in April 1988, then left evidence where I was bound to see it. I went to the police. It turned out they were already investigating you and your colleagues, most of whom went 'underground'. Amazingly our friendship, badly torn, survived. On the evening of 22nd February 1989, you came to my home, extremely agitated. You paced my sitting room for 2 hours. By the time I realised you were having a heart attack, it was too late. You died before my eyes. At least it was quick. You were no angel, but not evil, either. Others were involved in your ring. None but you confessed.
