Harry A. Mullen was born to Washington Socrates Mullen and Myrtle Clara Nelson in Montgomery County, Iowa. His brothers and sisters are Floyd W, Helen G. (Coon), Everett G. and Janice E. (Mascher). He married Reta Mae Vogel on Nov. 6, 1941, in Maryville, Missouri. Born to them was a son, Robert A. Harry served in the U.S. Army during World War II (in the 90th Infantry Division and the 16th Armored Division). From 1946 to 1951, the couple lived at Nodaway, Adams County, Iowa and then moved to a farm northwest of Villisca, Montgomery County, Iowa where they resided until moving to West Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa in 1988. He died at Kavanaugh Hospice in Des Moines.
