Kip killed his parents, Bill & Faith Kinkel in their home 5/20/98 and then went to school the next day heavily armed and opened fire in the school's cafteria. Mikael had recently joined the National Guard was was buried with full military honors. Kip, who was a freshman at the time, was tried as an adult and was sentenced to the Oregon Department of Corrections for 40 years to life. The story received national media attention.
