Sophie Mary Bastien was born on 06 Aug 1872 in St Paul, Ramsey, Minnesota as the first child of Joseph John Violette dit Bastian and Rosalie Dufour. She had three younger siblings: Georgianna, Rosa, and Louis. Her mother died 13 July 1879 when she was not even 7 years old. Her father remarried shortly thereafter on 18 July 1880 to Marie Louise Rose Anger (who is the older sister of her future husband Samuel Anger). Her father and new step-mother had 6 children: John Joseph, Nelson, Joseph Paul, Marie Virginia, Peter Samuel and Marie Laura. Shortly after the last child was born, Sophie's step-mother died 24 Jan 1892 at the age of 30. Her father died 5 years later in 1897.

When she was 17, she married Samuel Peter Anger, son of Amable Anger and Margaret Breault, on 10 Jun 1890 at St. Louis King of France church in St Paul, Ramsey, Minnesota. Between 1891 and 1912, Samuel and Sophie had 10 children that survived early childhood. They were Rosalie, John (Jack), Albert, Lillian, Samuel, Genevieve, Paul, Earl, Clement and Sophie.

Sometime after 1930, but by 1935, Samuel, Sophie and their youngest son Clement had moved to Inglewood, Los Angeles, California. They appear to have followed their oldest John (Jack) out west. Jack and his wife Tena are living in Spokane, Washington in 1920. By 1928 Jack & Tena are living in Inglewood. Samuel, Sophie and Clement showed up shortly thereafter. It has been said they moved to California because Sophie suffered from asthma.

She died on 31 Jan 1941 in Inglewood, Los Angeles, California and is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery.
