William Green Ferguson (15 Mar 1855-25 Jan 1940), son of William Wood Ferguson and Mrgaret Maben, was raised in Lincoln County, TN. He married Mary Elon Fowler (20 Mr 1859-27 Jan 1940), daughter of Thomas Jefferson Fowler and Sarah Ann Elizabeth Smith. J.F. Smith, JP. married them 19 Aug 1875 in Lincoln County, TN.
Sometime before 1910 the family moved to Limestone County, AL. They stated in the census record they had been married for 34 years, had 9 children and all still living.
William Green was 84 years, 1 month and 25 days old when he died 25 Jan 1940. Mary Elon was 80 years old, 1 month and 25 days old when she died 27 Jan 1940. They were married 65 years and raised 9 children to be grown. At their death they had 8 children living and 178 descendats. They were buried on Sunday afternoon, 28 January 1940, at 3 oclock in the same grave in the Gatlin Cemetery, Limestone County, AL.
They were the parents of ten children. 1) Effie Maude married John Smith. She died at the age of 75. Effie may not be their daughter but she was raised by them. 2) Ada married William Jacob Fowler, son of James Gatch Fowler and Eliza E. Reed. N. D. Crutcher married them 5 Dec 1897 at Piney Grove Baptist Church, Limestone County, AL. Their children include: Rollie Everett, Vanella Mae, and Corah Eleanor Fowler. 3) William Thomas married Sue Bailey daughter of Edward Allen Bailey and Martha Jane Crutcher. G. W. Johnson married them 25 Oct 1902 in Limestone County, AL. They are buried in Shady Grove Cemetery, Madison County, AL. Their children include: Aurelia Doris, Emmett V., Edna, Martha, William B., Thomas, Jerome C., Mabel, Cassie, Eugene, and Celia Ferguson. 4) Emmett D. married Corrine E. Hatchett, daughter of Thomas B. Hatchett and Elizabeth E. Toney. They are buried in Hatchett Cemetery #2, Limestone County, AL. Their children include: Maubry H., Eldridge, Thomas O., Geneva L. and William Dalton Fergerson. 5) Hattie Clara married John Shelby Jones, son of John Jones and Mary Jane "Mollie" Toney. They are buried in Gatlin Cemetery, Limestone County, AL. Their children include: Mary Ellen, Mabel Pearl, Shelby Clinton, John William, Hural Alexander, Gladys Dean, Aaron Morice, Geneva Louise, Shields Oran, Reve Chester Nelson and Edna Earl Jones. 6) Shelby Claude married Susan Irene (Rena) Buckner, daughter of Leonard Franklin Buckner and Polina Ava Browning.
