James Kenneth Konopka, 68, formerly of Worcester, Mass. and Hollis, Maine, died suddenly on August 15, 2011.

James was born in Worcester, to Chester and Mary Konopka. He graduated from Sacred Heart Academy, Worcester State College, and UMass Amherst and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He taught Special Education at Chandler Junior High in Worcester, and later was an independent truck driver.

He leaves three sons: Ken Konopka and his wife Yuko and grandson Tdiji of Providence, James Konopka and his wife Ana Louisa of Worcester, and David Konopka and his wife Deborah of Brooklyn, N.Y. He also leaves a sister, Mindy McGovern and her husband Walter of Worcester; his nephew, Congressman Jim McGovern, and two nieces: Wendy Talcott and Kelly Tuttle; an uncle, Joseph Zawalich of Jefferson and many cousins including his devoted cousin, Ellen Peloquin.

Funeral services will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery off Connery Ave., in Bourne, MA 02532 on Friday, August 19, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Athy Memorial Home of Worcester is directing arrangements.
