Howard R. "Dick" Armstrong, 68, of Shelbyville, formerly of Cowden, died at 3:40 p.m. Tuesday (Dec. 13, 1994) in the Shelby Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Lockart and Sons Funeral Home in Shelbyville, with visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery, Cowden.

He was born June 17, 1926, in Shelby County, the son of Robert and Faye Lewis Armstrong. He married Veda May Babb May 11, 1949, in Urbana, and she died Dec. 27, 1992.

Surviving are one son, Robert Lawson and wife Marlene of Boody; daughter, Mrs. Edgar (Betty) Bowman of Beecher City; brothers, Wayne Armstrong and wife Gerneda of Shelbyville, Russell Armstrong and wife Mary of Beecher City, Bill Armstrong and wife Helen of Decatur, Leo Armstrong and wife Edwina of Tower Hill, Forest Armstrong and wife Fran of Findlay and Max Armstrong of Shelbyville; sisters, Patricia Bialeschki of Farmer City, Mrs. Clyde (Maude) Baldwin of El Paso, Texas, Mrs. Eddie (Jessie) Polley of Decatur, Mrs. Robert (Glenna) Taylor of Beecher City, Mrs. Brad (Marian) Lorton of Riverton and Mrs. Robert (Eileen) McElroy of Beecher City; five grandchildren, John and Darrell Arnold, Barbara Brazle, Robert Lawson and Tammy True; and four great-grandchildren, Amy, Aubrey and Jeremiah Arnold and Christopher Brazle.

One grandchild and two sisters, Joan Beeson and Betty Armstrong,preceded him in death.

Mr. Armstrong was a veteran of World War II and member of the VFW Post 4829 of Shelbyville and IBEW Local 146.
