Private Charles W. Lurton was killed in action on 13 Oct. 1864 while on a raid near Kearneysville, West Virginia. He was a member of Col. John Singleton Mosby's Calvary and they captured a Baltimore & Ohio train and $173,000 from Union paymaster.
