The unexpected death of A. B. Thompson which occurred last Saturday marks the passing of another pioneer of this county, he having came here in 1884. He was County Surveyor for a good many years. He was again elected to that office at the last general election.
He was born in Oneida, N.Y., March 9, 1845 and died at his home in Belvidere on January 24, 1931 after a brief illness at the age of 85 years, 10 months and 15 days.
He was united in marriage in 1877 to Clara J. Revell and to this union were born three sons, Fred, George and Ed and one daughter, Erma, all of whom survive. Besides the immediate family there remains one brother, E. E. Thompson of Chicago and one granddaughter.
There are many land marks over the county that will mark the care and accuracy with which he discharged the duties of life.
The funeral was conducted from the family home in Belvidere, on Wednesday afternoon by Rev. J. Bruce Wylie, a long time friend of the family. The service at the cemetery being in charge of the Masonic Lodge of Hebron. Mr. Thompson having been a member of that order for over sixty-three years. Interment in the Belvidere Cemetery.
