D. R. BRADFORD, 69, STRICKEN SUDDENLY
Long-Time Resident is Victim of Cholera Morbus; Funeral Held Monday

D. R. Bradford, for more than forty years a resident of this community passed away early last Friday afternoon at the age of 69 years, a victim of cholera morbus. He had been ill since last Monday night. His condition was not considered serious until early Friday morning, and he rapidly became worse until death came about two o'clock in the afternoon.

David Richard Bradford was born March 5, 1862, at Milford, Wisconsin and when a child of four moved with his parents to Iowa, where he spent the early years of his life. He attended the public schools at Nashua, and completed his education at Upper Iowa University. Following graduation, he taught school at Sheffield, Iowa, for several years and later quit the profession to engage in the mercantile business there.

On April 14, 1886, he married Carrie Hunter, at Bradford, Iowa. To them were born three children, one of whom, a boy, died in infancy. The other two, who survive their father are, Mrs. R. W. Smyth (Mary) of Park Rapids, and Livingston, of Wahpeton, North Dakota.

In the fall of 1889 the Bradford's left Iowa and came to Minnesota, settling on a farm at Hubbard. For twelve years Mr. Bradford was associated with his brother Isaiah in the Banking House of James Billings at Hubbard, and also taught several terms in the Hubbard school. Leaving Hubbard the family moved to a farm in Straight River township, where they made their home for five years moving to Park Rapids in 1906 when Mr. Bradford was elected County superintendent of schools.

Mr. Bradford served Hubbard county in the capacity of superintendent of schools for eighteen years, retiring from that office in 1922 to return to his Straight River farm. Three years ago Mr. and Mrs. Bradford again moved to Park Rapids to live.

Besides the widow, son and daughter, Mr. Bradford is survived by a sister, Mr. Dilla Piney, of Seattle, Washington, a half sister, Mrs. M. E. Dowd, of Nashua, Iowa, and a half brother Charles of Bradford, Idaho.

Funeral services were conducted at the home Monday afternoon, Dr. Harry W. Bell of Long Prairie, former pastor here, preaching the funeral sermon. He was assisted in the services by Rev. P. A. St. John, pastor of the local M. E. church.

Interment was made in the Hubbard cemetery, with the burial ritual of the Masonic order exemplified by members of Shell Lodge No. 184.
Relatives here to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Livingston Bradford and Mrs. Hoefner of Wahpeton.

I. H. Bradford is a banker of Hubbard, Hubbard County, Minnesota. Mr. Bradford has the satisfaction of tracing his ancestral line back to the famous Plymouth colony, he being a direct descendant of Governor Bradford. His ancestry was also prominent in the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. James Bradford, his father, was born in Cushing, Maine, September 21, 1805, and he emigrated to Wisconsin when a young man, settling at Monroe. After living in several localities in Wisconsin, he moved to Iowa in 1864, establishing himself at Nashua and engaging in the business of wagon manufacturing. His wife was Miss Sarah Hudson, who is a native of Sardinia, New York. She is a descendant of Henry Hudson. Her family was for many years prominent in Rhode Island. She is still living with a daughter at Hubbard. Her husband died at Nashua on July 13, 1877. I. H. Bradford was born on June 5, 1857, in the town of Washington, Green County, Wisconsin. His early education commenced in the public schools of Milford, Wisconsin. When the family moved to Iowa he entered the public schools of Nashua and made rapid progress in his studies.
