John William Benson, 49, Muscle Shoals, died June 16, 2004.Visitation was Friday, June 18, 2004, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Colbert Memorial Chapel. The funeral service will be Saturday, June 19, 2004, at 10 a.m. at the chapel, with burial in Colbert Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be William Bonee and Boyd Bonee.

He was the K-9 officer for the Colbert County Sheriff's Department for 11 years. He was a member of F.O.P. and P.B.A. He leaves behind his faithful partner, Black Jack.He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Benson Reeves; father, William Bromley; adopted father, Joe Benson; grandparents, Clarence Barnett and Annie Barnett Jones.Survivors include his wife, Esther M. Benson; daughter, Anna Benson Holt and husband, Travis; granddaughter, Kiley.

Pallbearers will be family and friends. The family requests no flowers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alabama Central Credit Union to his granddaughter, Kiley Marie Benson Holt Trust Fund.Colbert Memorial Chapel is directing.
