Parents: Roscoe and Violet (Laufman) Cole.

He was raised and educated in North Bend, Oregon.

He entered the US Navy during WWII, serving our country while in the Submarine Corps.

After the war he returned to North Bend and on July 7, 1946, was united in marriage to Leola Rencehausen.

John worked with Coos County before he and Leola moved to Harper, Oregon where he worked at a dairy farm. The family settled in Winston in 1963 where he worked as an equipment operator for the Douglas County landfill. He retired in 1985.

He and Leola were members of the Hucrest Community Church Of God. John enjoyed the outdoors, including hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed woodworking.

He is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Colton and her husband, Wayne of Glide, Oregon, and two sons, Michael Cole and his wife, Glenda of Missouri and James Cole and his wife, Kathy of Dillard, Oregon. He also leaves a daughter-in-law, Judy Cole of North Bend. He and Leola were blessed with 11 grandchildren, Scott Colton and Ruth of Marysville, Washington; Robert Colton and Shelah of Roseburg; Shawn Cole and Michelle of Springfield, Missouri; Dustin Cole and Shana of Elliston, Virginia; Kelby Cole and Vesta of Nevada, Missouri; Miko Cole and Jackie and Lopaka Cole and Shannon, both of Olympia, Washington; Tyler Cole and Keri of Winston; John Cole and Shannon of Green River, Wyoming; Brenda Cole of Gooding, Idaho and Patti Cole of Arlington, Washington. He also leaves numerous great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two brothers and a son, John Roscoe.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, September 16, 2011, at the Roseburg National Cemetery. Officiating will be Pastor Lorin Myers with military rites offered by the VFW District Twelve Honor Guard.
