Obituary,
Newport Hoosier State
Wednesday, March 8, 1893

James F. Burnett Sr. of Dana, died on Wednesday last, between 5 and 6 o'clock in the evening, aged 78 years. The deceased was born in Kentucky in 1815, and settled in this county in 1837. The funeral occurred at 10 a.m. on Friday last, the funeral services being conducted by Rev. Thomas Griffith of Montezuma.

The immediate cause of death was from a hurt received by falling on the ice a few weeks ago. A year ago or more the deceased was thrown from a buggy by a runaway horse, and quite seriously hurt, from the effects of which he never recovered. When he fell on the ice a few weeks ago, he rehurt the same old wound. He suffered intensely, and had to be given opiates in large doses to relieve his misery. He was a respected and esteemed citizen, and his death is mourned by everyone.
