DOYLESTOWN, PA -- Gertrude (Lightfoot) Hantzis entered eternal life peacefully at her Doylestown, PA home surrounded by her family on December 9th, 2010. She was 80 years old. She lived the past three years in heroic battle against breast cancer. She was the beloved wife and Irish beauty of Christodoulos (Chris) Hantzis. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Sept 19th.
She was born in Lowell MA to William Lightfoot and Ethel (Greene) Lightfoot on June 8th,1930. She attended St. Peter's school and at the age of 20 she married and left Lowell. She spent the initial twenty three plus years of her married life as the wife of a Marine. She walked beside her cherished husband through deployments in Korea and Vietnam, serving this country bravely from the home front. Her highest mission and lasting legacy was how well and deeply she cared for/about others -- husband, children, family, friends, and very often strangers with whom she befriended with ease and charm.
She spent her retirement years visiting Inns, quiet times with her husband and being with family. Her main aspiration in life was to create and foster a loving family and legacy. She superseded that goal leaving behind four children and countless grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Besides her beloved husband, she leaves two sons, William Hantzis and his wife Barbara of Clinton, MA., Brian Hantzis and his wife Patricia of Henrietta, New York, and two daughters Cynthia Pinciaro and her husband Alan of Limestone ME, and Ilene Carriuolo of Doylestown, PA.
Several grandchildren: Jeffrey, John, Lisa, Marietta, Ellen, Jennifer, Brian, Adam, and Alexander.
And many, great grandchildren: Devin, Brandon, Chloe, Brielle, Isabella, William, Richard, Dalton, Christina, Madison, Amanda, Alyssa, Kareena and Ashley. She was predeceased by her siblings Frank Lightfoot and Phyllis Haley.
HANTZIS -- Visiting hours will be from 4 to 7 pm on Monday, December 13th at the Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, FALMOUTH CENTER. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Tuesday at St. Patrick's Church, 511 Main Street, Falmouth. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
