ADA SHEPARD BRACKMAN
RAINELLE -- Ada Shepard Brackman, 93, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 12, 2009, at her home following a long illness.
Born on Feb. 17, 1916, in Rockbridge, Bath County, Va., she was the last of the seven children of the late Howard Newton and Margaret Swisher Miller.
Mrs. Brackman was a homemaker, a member of the Sewell Valley Baptist Church in Rainelle and an avid quilter. She made quilts for her family she loved so much and she made lap quilts for many of the residents in the Heartland of Rainelle Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
In addition to her parents; one brother and five sisters, she is preceded in death by her husband, Lester Lee Brackman; three daughters, Janet Lee Brackman, Jean Delores Yoho and Dorothy Lucille Kroneberg; and one grandson, Alec Reuben Staley.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth Brackman and wife, Evelyn of Rainelle; two daughters, Frances Helen Staley of Charlottesville, Va. and Elizabeth Carol Altizer and husband, Jimmie of Ronceverte; 11 grandchildren, Janet Sparks, Michael Yoho, Brad Brackman, Marcus Brackman, William Brackman Staley, Susan Staley, Celeste Staley, Kenneth Lee Kroneberg, Pamela K. Boothe, Russell Kroneberg, John Altizer and Steve Altizer; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, at Smathers Funeral Chapel, Rainelle, with Pastor Milton Ker and Evangelist Eddie Ray Goddard officiating. Burial will follow in the Rainelle Cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, at Smathers Funeral Chapel, Rainelle.
