EDWARDSBURG, Mich. -- Ernest Lee "Ernie" McClain, 49, of Edwardsburg, died at 5:18 a.m. Thursday (Aug. 16, 2007) in Kingsville, Ohio, after a sudden illness while vacationing with his family.

He was born Nov. 15, 1957, in Three Rivers to Ernest Lincoln and Harriett (Bristol) McClain. He married Rebecca "Becky" D. on Sept. 19, 1987, in Edwardsburg.

She survives along with four daughters, Danielle J. (Mark) Kobie of Elkhart, Ind., and Alicia J., Tia L. and Olivia A. McClain, all at home; four sons, Ernest W. "Wes" (Bobbi) McClain of Elkhart and Charles W. "Charlie," Andres C. and Christian McClain, all at home; two sisters, Ardell (Al) Bontrager of Sturgis and Arlene Moord of Portage; one brother, Larry McClain of Edwardsburg; his mother, Harriett (Doug) Savacool of Okeechobee, Fla.; and his father, Ernest "Ernie" (Maxine) McClain of Three Rivers.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara A. Cohee.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, and one hour prior to Tuesday's 1 p.m. funeral service at the Elkhart Church of God on C.R. 4, Elkhart. Pastor B.J. Bishop will officiate, with burial to follow in Adamsville Cemetery, Adamsville, Mich.

Mr. McClain was a 1975 graduate of Edwardsburg High School and an active member of the Elkhart Church of God, serving on several committees and fellowship groups. He was a purchasing agent for Coachmen Industries for nearly 30 years and then at Four Winds International, where he was employed for the past four years.

He was a devout family man and his best times were spent with his wife and children. He enjoyed taking road trips, going on walks in parks and visiting nature centers. His love for the outdoors also fueled his enthusiasm for motorcycles, where he would spend countless hours riding Harleys with his son, Wes. When he wasn't on his Harley or with his family, he could be found with his special "sidekick," his dog, Buster.

Memorials may be given to Elkhart Church of God, American Cancer Society or the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Visit www.billingsfuneralhome.com to send online condolences.
