Preceded in death by 2nd husband James H. Epps (the love of her life) and son Charles F. Michaels. Survived by her devoted daughter, Carmen Womble, who was her caregiver and eight grandchildren.
Hilaria Parmenia de Jesus Testar y Valdes was born in Artemisa, La Habana, Cuba to Reuben Testar and Asuncion Valdes. She married American Fred Michaels in Havana in 1926 and they returned to the states in 1927. She was the first Cuban to become an American citizen in Dallas County. She came from a wealthy Cuban family that eventually lost everything when Castro came to power. Her sister, Victoria and her family left all their possessions behind when they immigrated to FL in 1959. She loved to dance, especially the Rumba. Although she had lived in this country most of her life she still kept her Cuban accent and made the best arroz con pollo. We knew her as "Mimaw". She will be missed. Descanse en paz!
