U.S. Congressman. He was employed on a flatboat on the Mississippi River and moved to Greensburg, Indiana, in 1834. There he engaged in mercantile pursuits (1834-37) and in farming. He was treasurer of Decatur County, (1841-43), a member of the Indiana State constitutional convention in 1850 and was commander of the 4th Brigade, Indiana State Militia, in 1852. In 1857, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-fifth Congress, serving until 1859. After term, he resumed his agricultural pursuits, until his death at age 79.
