Joseph Abata, 89, joined his heavenly father on Saturday, September 17, 2011. He is preceded in death by his wife Concetta Siracuse Abata, his son, Vincent Joseph Abata and his parents Vincent and Dorothy Abata. He is survived by numerous loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

Joe was born and raised in Caldwell, Texas. After moving to Houston, he served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in October, 1945. He worked many years at Dixon Nail Company. During his life, Joe owned and operated several small businesses including an apartment building, a grocery store, a laundromat, and "The Windswept Inn" restaurant. Joe loved playing poker and dominoes and was an avid fan of the Houston Astros. He was big joker and he enjoyed spending time at Heights Senior Center visiting with the men and entertaining the ladies. Along with his many other good qualities, he was very generous and was always available to help anyone in need. Joe loved his family and held his friends near to his heart; he will be greatly missed by all.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 19, 2011 in the Chapel of Heights Funeral Home, where a rosary vigil service will commence at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4419 N. Main Street, Houston, Texas 77009. Entombment will follow in Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, Houston, Texas.
