The funeral of Anton J. Bichel, father of Joseph and Frank Bichel of this city was held from St. Mary's church, Fond du Lac, Thursday morning, the Rev. Charle Stehling, D.D., officiating and interment took place in Calvary cemetery. The pallbearers were Arch Wilson, F. Ruch and Joseph and Frank Bichel, sons-in-law and sons respectively. The funeral services were largely attended and numerous floral offerings testified in a measure to the esteem in which the decedent was held.
Mr. Bichel was born in Schantz, Bohemia, June 10, 1842, and came to this country with his parents at the age of twelve years. The family located at Menasha, Winnebago county, where Anton grew to manhood and where he was married to Miss Barbara Schubert in 1859.
Mr. and Mrs. Bichel moved to Fund du Lac in 1878, Mr. Bichel receiving the appointment of undersheriff from Sheriff Edward Coleman, a position he likewise filled under Sheriff Neil Bell, in all acting as a Fond du Lac county official for four years.
For a number of years, Mr. Bichel was engaged in the hotel business conducting the hotel property at the corner of Fifth and Main streets in Fond du Lac.
Survivng are his widow and five children: Mrs. Charles Jensen of Summerdale, Alabama; Mrs. Frank W. Ruch and Mrs. Arch G. Wilson, both of Fond du Lac; and Joseph and Frank Bichel of Sheboygan; three grandchildren, Barbara Ruch and Raymond and Doris Bichel, and four sisters, Mrs. John Schneider and Mrs. John Oberweiser of Menasha; Mrs. Joseph Payer of Appleton and Mrs. Joseph LeRoy of Marinette.
