The Life of Robert Edwards will be celebrated in a memorial service at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Tahoka. Robert died peacefully in his home in Tahoka on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the age of 85. He was born January 30, 1926 in Tahoka to Carroll and Nellie B. Edwards. He graduated from Brownfield High School and spent a lifetime as a farmer in Lynn County. Robert married Wilma Jean Gresham on December 15, 1945 in Lubbock. They made their home in Tahoka, where he was board member of Farmer's Co-op and served as a Deacon for more than 50 years at the First Baptist Church.
His memory will be cherished by his wife of 65 years, Wilma; one daughter, Donna Stone and husband Dan of Tahoka; one son, Milton Edwards and wife MaryAnn of Tahoka; one, sister Freda Jeffcoat and husband Wayne of Tahoka; two nieces that he helped raise, Calva Ledbetter and Elva Edwards; three grandchildren, Drew Stone and wife Shelly, Davy Stone and wife Kassidi and D'Lynn Gill and husband Ryan; seven great-grandchildren, Braden, Bryson, Brogan, Halle, Marlee, Remington, and Klaire.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and one sister.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, September 19, 2011 at Combest Family Funeral Homes in Tahoka. Interment will follow at Nevels Memorial Cemetery.
