Forrest B. Vannoy, 79, of Core, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at home. He was born Oct. 29, 1921, in Shock, son of the late Frances L. and Lena Miller Vannoy. He retired in 1981 as a supervisor with Consolidation Coal Co.'s Blacksville No. 2 preparation plant. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was an active member of Buckeye United Methodist Church as a Sunday school teacher and lay speaker. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 9916. He is survived by his wife, Betty Propst Vannoy; a son and spouse, Mark and Betsy Vannoy, of Core; a daughter, Rebecca Tennant and friend Kevin Kincaid, of Hernando, Fla.; two grandchildren and a spouse, Autumn and Gilbert Gonzalos, of Virginia, and Damion Vannoy, of Core; and a sister and spouse, Ina and Charles Earhart, of Woodstock, Ga. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathryn Pauley Vannoy, in June 1995, and three sisters, Hallie Smyth, Thelma Everly and Audrey Radcliff. Graveside funeral service will be at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, with the Rev. Fred McAllister officiating.
