Mary Louise Loving was born 12 September 1846, a daughter of James Loving and Sarah Stipe. Her grandfather Christopher Loving (wife Judith Seay) served in the American Revolution as a drummer boy.

Mary Loving married John Calvin Stevenson on 27 December 1866 in Old Salem, Menard Co., IL. They were the parents of four children: Franklin C., Mary Matilda, Cora, and John Wesley.

Of interest, Mary's sister, Martha Ann Loving, married James M. Stevenson, the eldest brother of her husband, John Calvin Stevenson.

Mary Louise Loving Stevenson was known affectionately in the family as Aunt Lou. She died at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, June 22, 1909 at St. John’s hospital in Springfield, IL from the effects of an operation, aged 62 years.
