Pauline A. "Mimie" Champagne, a lifelong resident of the area, died Saturday at her Traverse City home. A retiree of Essex Wire Co., Traverse City, she wintered in Verl Beach, Fla. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Cherryland Post No. 2780 and the Ladies Auxiliary of Eagles Aeries 383. She loved her family and grandchildren and especially her great-granddaughters. She enjoyed fishing, dancing, crocheting and life in general. The daughter of Henry and Anna (Rodofski) Fleese, she was born in Cedar. On Sept. 28, 1935, in Kingsley, she married, Floyd Champagne, who died in 1971. Also preceding her in death were two brothers Albert and Lawrence Fleese, in infancy, and two half-sisters, Robinette and Barbara Micham. Surviving are a daughter, Joyce Perry of Traverse City; a grand-daughter, Paula (Rick) Bielewicz of Cape May, N.J.; two grandsons, Tim (Karen) Perry of Interlochen and Doug Perry of Traverse City; two great-granddaugters, Nicole and Desiree Perry, both of Interlochen; five sisters, Martha Allen of Waterford, Alice Harig of Traverse City, Celia Fleese of Traverse City, Mary (Art) Jones of Grawn, and Maxine (Jim) Pekkala of Traverse City; two brothers, Joe Fleese of Grand Rapids and Lloyd (Ruth) Micham of Traverse City, and a special friend, Ray Fanilla of Traverse City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes, the Rev. James Gardiner officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Traverse City. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home where the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Cherryland Post No. 2780 will conduct a special service at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be given in her name to the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Cherryland Post No. 2780.
