ARKANSAS CITY, Kan., Oct. 27 – Funeral for Dr. Fred D. Sparks, 86, retired Ponca City dentist who died late Sunday in the Masonic home in Guthrie, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Erdman-Oldroyd funeral chapel, Arkansas City.
Dr. Sparks, who practiced dentistry in Ponca City 50 years, retiring in 1948, was a former mayor of Ponca City, and had held numerous high offices in Oklahoma Masonic bodies.
Until he entered the Guthrie home a year ago, he had made his home in Arkansas City the past four years with a sister, Mrs. Grace Finney, in the old family home here.
A past state president of the Oklahoma State dental association, he was the oldest member of the group at the time of his death.
He was a past master of the Ponca City lodge, AF & AM, and a past grand master of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Oklahoma, member of Akdar Shrine temple of Tulsa, member of Scottish Rite temple in Guthrie, life member of York Rite bodies in Ponca City and a 33rd degree Mason.
He was the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. J. W. Sparks, who came to Arkansas City in 1884. He was educated in Arkansas City and was graduated from Indiana Dental college in 1898.
Rev. Edwin W. Parker, district superintendent of the Methodist church, Oklahoma City, will conduct services here, and graveside services at the family plot in Riverview cemetery here will be conducted by the Most Worshipful Grand lodge of Oklahoma.
Besides his sister, Dr. Parks is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
