Short 1866 – 1931, he married Cornelia Ann Nealie Mcbride on July 10 1889; Mary D Short 1869, Mary married Robert Grant Buchanan Apr 11 1887; James H Short 1874 – 1930, Jim married Dona Gulley abt. 1893; Joseph Short 1881 – 1967, Joe married Hessie L. Berry abt. 1901; and Verdie Short 1888, she married Will M Leonard abt 1907.
Sam and Serena were living in White Horn, Hawkins Co., during the 1870 census. They declared assets of 700 dollars in real estate and 500 in personal estate. Sam was a farmer while Serena was busy keeping house.
Sam, Serena and his and his brother, John and his family lived on adjoining farms all of their married life. Their farms were located on what is now Walker Church Rd., Bulls Gap TN. Their homes were fairly close together, across the road and very near to the Gulley Cemetery. In the 1920 census Serena was living Jefferson City, TN, at the home of her daughter,Verdie Leonard Her death cert. states that she was in Jefferson City at the time of her death.
