Frank Sugden Passes Away
Prominent Citizen of Stewart Succumbs to Tuberculosis Monday.
Frank Sugden, one of the most prominent citizens of Stewart, and a man having a wide acquaintanceship in McLeod County, died at his home in that village last Monday morning, April 5th, from tuberculosis. He leaves besides his wife, two sons and three daughters. They are Elmer, who is in the printing business at Kalispel, Mont.; Richard, who is employed in a bank in North Dakota; Luella, a school teacher at Lake Preston; Frances, a student at Stevens Seminary in this city, and Mildred residing at home.
The late Frank Sugden was born in Sparts, Wis., 1863, and had attained the age of 46 years. He located in Stewart about 24 years ago, and was employed by the Empire Elevator Co., to conduct its grain warehouse located there. He was later promoted to the position of traveling auditor for this company, in which capacity he served for many years until about a year ago when he resigned and immediately purchased an elevator in Stewart and engaged in the grain business.
About a year ago he became seriously ill and the attending physician diagnosed his ailment as tuberculosis. His condition gradually became worse, and last autumn in the hope of gaining relief he went to the pine district in Northern Minnesota. Apparently, his health improved while there, and he returned home to spend the Christmas holidays with his family and then went north again. Soon afterward he contracted a severe cold and lagrippe. He became weak physically which led him to return to Stewart.
The late Frank Sugden was highly respected by all who knew him, and he was esteemed by his townspeople among whom he had lived for so many years. He had served in nearly every public office in the village of Stewart. He was mayor for several terms and was for many years a member of the school board until a year ago when he resigned. His demise will be learned with regret throughout the county.
The funeral will take place at 1:30 o'clock today. Services will be held at the home, and all members of the family will be present.
