Eva L. Perry, 94, a 45-year Oceanside resident, died Aug. 18, 2006, in Anchorage, Alaska, following a lengthy decline. Following a private funeral in Eagle River, Alaska, she will be buried beside her husband and father at Sunset Memorial Heights, Tillamook, Sunday, Sept. 3, with arrangements by Waud's Funeral Home.

Born Oct. 10, 1911, in Lovington, N.M., to Lovick and Luna Adair, she grew up in a homestead, living in a sod house on the plains of what was then New Mexico Territory. After attending a one-room country school, Eve went to high school in Lovington, N.M., then graduated college in Lubbock, Texas, as a registered nurse.

In 1939, while nursing for the Veterans Bureau in Albuquerque, N.M., she married Gilbert Perry. He brought her to his home in Portland, where sons Rod and Alan were born.

In 1953, the family moved to Oceanside. There, Gil, a bricklayer, donated the brick and block work on the Community Hall and the Fire Hall as a contribution to the town and Eve became a renowned beachcomber, gathering one of the foremost collections of Japanese glass fishing floats on the coast.

When their sons moved to Alaska in 1967, Eve and Gil began making regular trips north to visit and work. Upon Gil's death in 1981, Eve's stays in Alaska lengthened. She finally moved north entirely in the late 1990s.

Eve enjoyed reading, especially her well-worn Bible, as well as corresponding and visiting. She was committed to Jesus and devoted to her beloved Church of the Nazarene, first in Portland, then in Tillamook and finally in Eagle River, Alaska. She was very active and always up for an adventure. She walked several miles a day until age 90 when she broke her hip while working at a church camp.

Eve is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Rod and Karen Perry and grandchildren, Jordan, Ethan, Levi, Laura and Gabriel Perry of Chugiak, Alaska; her son, Alan Perry of Kenai, Alaska; and grandchildren, Cameron and Lowell Perry of Anchorage, Alaska, and Lana, Leah and Noah Perry of Kasilof, Alaska.
