Elizabeth Lucy Ransom

Elizabeth Lucy Ransom, age 91, of Grandview, passed away at the Raleigh Center at Daniels, on Thursday, September 22, 2011, following a short illness.

Born on July 25, 1920, at Grandview, Mrs. Ransom was the daughter of the late Burke McClure and Connie Hunt McClure.

She was a homemaker, and was a former employee of Beckley Manufacturing. Mrs. Ransom was a member of the Grandview Christian, where she had taught Sunday School Classes for over 50 years.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Eugene, Forest, and Rob McClure, and by sisters, Verna Armstrong, and Ida Belle Miles.

Mrs. Ransom was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her son, Eugene Ransom and his wife Sandy of Grandview, with whom she had made her home; three grandchildren, John Ransom and his wife Robin of Mechanicsville, Va., Christi Ransom of Apex, N.C., and Lynn Powers and her husband David of Midlothian, Va.; four great-grandchildren, Logan Ransom, Taylor Bever, Austin Ransom, and Kendall Powers; a great-great-niece and three great-great-nephews who were like grandchildren to her; Kacie Blosser, Caleb, Cody, and Zach Wills are also among her survivors.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Elizabeth Ransom will be conducted on Monday, September 26, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley with Minister Terry Newton and Minister Oscar Schwitzerlette officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley.

Friends may call on Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Austin Ransom, Caleb, Zach, Cody, and David Wills, and Jack Miles.
