Mary was the daughter of Nicolas Hay and Mary Nimsgern. She married 1. John G. Hergott, son of Nicolas Hergott and Anne Marie Nimsgern, on 18 Dec 1878 at St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg, McHenry County, Illinois. Mary and John were the parents of four children known, Elizabeth (Elsie), Eleanora, William Vivian, and Arthur. Following the death of John, Mary then married 2. Joseph P. Schaefer, son of Peter J. Schaefer and Barbara Schmitt, on 7 October 1891 at St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg, McHenry County, Illinois. Mary and Joseph were the parents of four children known, George, Cecelia, Joseph and Albert ~
