William's B-26C crew was assigned to the 336th.Bomb Group, 478th Bomb Squadron. Their plane went into a spiraling dive and crashed into a swamp on a second attempt to land at Avon Park,(Florida). All crew members were killed.

Sgt. Richard Condit,
Sgt. John Collins, and
Sgt. Leroy Bording
