Seward W. Brown, 64, of 1204 Third St., Lacon, passed away at 8:43 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, at his residence.

He was born on Oct. 1, 1946, in Peoria to the late Elmer and Mary Alice (Seward) Brown. He married Becky Kent on Dec. 12, 1987, in Lacon; she survives.

Also surviving are his son, Andrew Brown of Lacon, and his sister, Frances Bennington of Toluca.

He was preceded in death by one son in 1975.

Seward was employed by Caterpillar Inc. in corporate security for 35 years, retiring in 2004, and was a former Lacon police officer. He was currently working for the Marshall County Sheriff's Department.

He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam as a combat engineer from 1964 to 1967, and his rank was SP/5 (T).

He attended the Lacon-Sparland United Methodist Church.

Seward was a member of the Lacon Masonic Lodge No. 61 AF&AM, of which he was a past and current master.

Masonic services will be held at Lenz Memorial Home in Lacon at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, with a memorial service to follow. The Reverend Casey Taylor will officiate. Cremation rites have been accorded. Interment of ashes will immediately follow the memorial service in the Lacon Cemetery, with military graveside rites by American Legion Post No. 593 of Lacon.

Memorials may be made to the family.
