Bernard was ordained a Catholic Priest on May 18, 1940 by Bishop James E. Kearney in Sacred Heart Cathederal in Rochester, New York.

He celebrated his first Mass on May 19, 1940.

While Paster of St. Januarius Church (1964-1971) in Naples, New York, he began raising funds to construct a new church which was completed in 1966.

He was a Captain in the United States Army/Air Force Chaplain's Corps during World War II.

Following his death, a Mass of the High Priest was celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. On the following day his Funeral Mass was held at the same Church.
