George enlisted in the United States Army on March 6, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois. He was in Hawaii's 25th Infantry Tropic Lightning Division. He was discharged on October 16, 1945 at Fort Sheridan, Illinois.

George was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Battle Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, six Overseas Service Bars, one Service Stripe, Good Conduct Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge. Lapel Button issued.

Battles and Campaigns were Guadalcanal, Bismarck Archipelago and Luzon.

He married Patricia Marie O'Leary on August 22, 1949 in St. Ignatius Church in Chicago, Illinois. They had three daughters.

He was an International Teamster Union Auditor.
