Gary Dale Alberhasky,63 of Iowa City, died Friday, Sept. 23, 2011 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 am at Lensing Funeral Home, 605 Kirkwood Ave. in Iowa City. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5-8 pm at Lensing Funeral Home. Burial will be at Memory Gardens. Following the committal, the family will welcome friends to a luncheon at the Kirkwood Room, 515 Kirkwood Ave. Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.
Gary was born to Cleldon Dale Alberhasky and Laura Alice(Kimberling) Alberhasky, May 27, 1948, in Iowa City, Iowa. He attended Iowa City High.
He married Jackie Kay Deeds on February 1, 1992.
Gary retired from the Army National Guard as SFC, E-7 after 25 years of service. He served overseas in both the Vietnam and Gulf Wars. Gary worked maintenance at the University of Iowa, and retired after 35 years of service.
Gary is survived by his four children, Carmen (Keith) Wipf of Evansdale, John (Denise) Alberhasky of Des Moines, David (Donna) Alberhasky of Iowa City, and Cindy Parks Alberhasky of Iowa City, a sister Lora (Matt) Lynn of Iowa City, and a brother Larry Bebee (Kathy) of Denver CO. He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren: Taylor Vansickle of Crystal, MN, DeVante Lang, ShaLynn Parks, Alina Alberhasky, and Ethan Alberhasky all of Iowa City.
Gary was preceded in death by both parents, his wife, a step-father Dorus Brown, and a brother Lindley Alberhasky.
