He was born April 26, 1917, in Council Bluffs, to Charles and Mary O'Reilly West and has lived and farmed in the Honey Creek area his whole life. He was an avid horseshoe player, dancer, and a member of the nine to one dance club. George formerly had worked at the Martin Bomber Plant and worked construction developing Indian Creek.
George is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wanda B., in 2004; sisters, Betty Pitt and Nellie Sales; brother, Patrick West.
Survivors include daughter, Teresa Boll and husband, Rick, in Honey Creek, Iowa; son, George, Jr. and wife, Kathy, in Crescent, Iowa, Ron and wife, Deb, Pat and wife, Sue, Mike, Rick and wife, Nancy, all of Honey Creek; 22 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.
