DeceasedRev. Loring Grant was the son of Isaac and Hannah (Tracy) Grant. He was the husband of Betsey (Keeney) Grant. They were married August 4, 1811. Betsey died January 10, 1867. Rev. Grant was a minister in the Methodist Episcopal Church: Philadelphia Conference 1809 Genesee (now Western New York) Conference at organization 1810 F 1811 Michigan Conference by transfer 1840 East Genesee Conference by transfer 1853.

The following resolution was presented by D. D. Gillett:

Whereas, Rev. Loring Grant was for several years a member of the Michigan Annual Conference. and intimately connected with the founding and building up of our educational institution;
And whereas, His remains have lain for several years in an unmarked grave at Albion; therefore,
Resolved, That a committee of one be appointed to correspond with friends, provide the means, prepare and place a suitable monument over his grave.

The resolution was amended by inserting a provision for the placing of a memorial tablet upon the walls of Albion College in his honor, and was adopted.

D. D. Gillett was appointed a committee to carry out the provisions of the above resolution.

Gravesite Details

Parents: Dr. Isaac & Hannah (Tracy) Grant. Wife Betsy R. See: Julia L. Bass. Rev. Grant erected the Central Building at the Wesleyan Seminary at Albion. His father Isaac served in the Revolutionary War.
