World War I British Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Lieutenant in the 3rd Battalion, Leinster Regiment. On September 3, 1916, he was in a heavy engagement with the Germans at Guillemont, France. During the attack on part of the village in front, Lieutenant Holland, led his men through their own artillery barrage toward the objective capturing some 50 prisoners. For prestigious gallantry in action, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal by the King at Buckingham Palace in February 1917.
