He was the son of Thomas Vaughn & "Kitty" (Lewellyn) Hill. He married Sallie E. Thomas in Paynesville, Pike Co., MO on 24 Sep 1895. They had five children: Allene, Margaretta, Mary Elizabeth, Claude E., and Sallie Mildred. He was ordained as a minister of the gospel in 1896, and served in churches in Alabama, Tennessee and Oklahoma. He served First Christian Church in Tulsa for twenty-five years, beginning in 1923. In the 1940's, Dr. Hill was recognized as one of the best preachers in the United States in World Call, making the top 10 out of 8,500 ministers.
