Dewey Ernest Lattin I (1898-1985) lived in Cuba from 1909 through 1915. He served in the United States Army during World War I. He was a milkman for the Borden Milk Company. (b. September 16, 1898; Farmingdale, Nassau County, Long Island, New York, 11735, USA - d. February 13, 1985; Lake Helen, Volusia County, Florida, 32744, USA) Military Service Number 370066 and Social Security Number 060090513.

Parents:
He was the second to last child of Jarvis Andrew Lattin (1853-1941) and Mary Jane Puckett (1854-1927). His father worked selling food on the Long Island Railroad and around 1870 traveled to Carroll County, Iowa and later Holt County, Nebraska around 1881. Jarvis' farm in Nebraska failed and he tried prospecting for gold in the Dakota Territory.

Isle of Pines, Cuba:
Jarvis moved the family to Cuba in 1909 but Dewey, and his siblings Eva and Teddy came home in 1915 and lived with Eva and her husband Anton Winblad in the Bronx in New York.

World War I:
He served in the United States Army in World War I. He had his basic training at Fort Slocum, New York starting on May 5, 1918. He served overseas from July 10, 1918 to July 5, 1919 and was honorably discharged on July 17, 1919.

Married:
He married Elizabeth Henry (1903-1987) on January 28, 1922 in New York.

Children:
Dewey had three children: Dewey Ernest Lattin II (1922-1982); Leonard Anthony Lattin (1925-2005); and Lee Henry Lattin (1929-2010).

Occupation:
From 1930 to 1940 he was a milkman, delivering milk along a route for Borden Farms.

Death:
Leonard senior died in Lake Helen, Volusia County, Florida on February 13, 1985 and he was buried in DeLand Memorial Gardens in Florida.

Dewey Ernest Lattin, 86, 195 Daniel St., Lake Helen, died Wednesday. Born in Long Island, N.Y., he moved to Lake Helen 23 years ago from the Bronx, New York. He was a retired milkman for the Borden Milk Co.; Army veteran of World War I; and member of the Lake Helen American Legion Post. Survivors: wife, Elizabeth; son, Lee H., Mount Vernon, N.Y., and Leonard, Lake Helen; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren. Lankford Funeral Home, DeLand.
