Bettie Alynne (Davis) Reichle, 88, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on September 18, 2011. A celebration of Bettie's life will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 21st at The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, Wesley Chapel, 13720 Roe Avenue, Leawood, Kansas followed with interment at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens at 701 N. 94th Street (State Avenue at 94th Street) in Kansas City, Kansas. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 20th at McGilley State Line Chapel Funeral Home at 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, Missouri.
Bettie was the only daughter born to Harry S. Davis and Orval L. (Yoakum) Davis in Moberly, Missouri. She graduated from Moberly Junior College in 1944.
She had three sons from her first marriage, Randy David Ray, Rodney Bruce Ray (Overland Park, Kansas) and James Franklin Ray, Jr. (Jimmy J). Bettie married Virgil D. Reichle, Sr. in 1961 at the First Christian Church in Merriam, Kansas. They have two children, Merriam D. (Reichle) Vater (Kevin) of Overland Park, Kansas and Virgil Dean Reichle, Jr. (Lily) of Shawnee, Kansas.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Randy and Jimmy J, two brothers, Richard Ryder Davis (Polly) of St. Louis, Missouri and Harry Yoakum Davis (Colleen) of Edgewater, Colorado.
Bettie leaves behind her loving husband of fifty years, two sons, a daughter, three grandchildren; Hannah Reichle, Matthew Reichle, Darrin Vater, and a brother, Eugene Austin Davis (Charlene) of Bonner Springs, Kansas. She leaves many nieces and nephews and a lifelong friend, Ira McNutt of Moberly, Missouri along with a host of lifelong friends and family who will greatly miss her.
Prior to her retirement in 1999, Bettie and Virgil ran a successful industrial maintenance supply business for over thirty-five years. Bettie loved dancing, gardening and fishing and was a lifelong fan of the University of Missouri Tigers. She also loved and supported the Kansas State University Wildcats where her husband and children attended college. She was a collector of antique dolls and enjoyed entertaining family and friends at their vacation home at the Lake of the Ozarks.
Bettie was an avid reader and loved researching genealogy. She and Virgil spent many hours at the libraries throughout the country and walking cemeteries to research their family histories. She and Virgil loved to travel and had spent their winters in Arizona, Florida, south Texas, and Hawaii visiting with family, old friends and meeting new friends. She never met a stranger.
