Mr. Harvell was born Jan. 30, 1933, in Mississippi to Charlie Harvell and America Williams Harvell.
He was a previous resident of the Ruth community, but has called Crossville home for the past 11 years. He was a member of Kilpatrick Missionary Baptist Church and retired from Gold Kist as a truck driver after 30 years with the company. He was an avid horseman, loved riding and loved his game chickens.
He is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law: John David Jr. and Sue Harvell of Union Grove, Terry and Cindy Harvell of Geraldine, David Lee and Rosemary Harvell of Albertville and Roy Harvell of Atmore; daughter: Larue Crowe of Arab; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister: Mattie Bell Hilburn of Union Grove.
He was preceded in death by a son: Phillip Harvell; two brothers: J. C. Harvell, Sr. and Dossie Harvell; and two sisters: Hazel Owens and Betty Bowman.
The funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, 2011, at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel with James Perigo, Gary Harvell and Terry Harvell officiating. Burial was in Gilliam Springs Cemeter with Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel directing.
Pallbearers were Floyd Bowman, Gary Harvell, Jay Harvell, J. C. Harvell, Jr., Michael Stewart, Jay Whisenant and Johnny Whisenant.
