Levi Jerome Chandler was born in Pennsylvania and adopted by Richard and Eliza F Brown Mann before the 1840 census where he was age 1. His family moved to LaMotte, Jackson, Iowa before 1854. His father, Richard passed away the next year. LJ married Sarah Shepard Griswold 5 April 1876 in Jackson County, Iowa. The 1910 census indicates this is his second marriage. Levi Jerome and Sarah raised their two boys Richard Romain and Harvey Elmer Mann in Jackson County, Iowa. By the 1920 census, LJ and Sarah had followed their younger son, Richard R to California where they lived in Long Beach until their deaths of natural causes.
