The widow of William F. Wassman, Lillian Schurmann Wassman was the only child of Gustav Schurmann, the Civil War's famed "Little Bugler", and the former Anastasia Quinlan. In 1905 she suffered the loss of both parents: her 53-year-old mother died in May, and her 56-year-old father succumbed to tuberculosis at the Wassmans' Manhattan home two months later. Like her parents, William Wassman also died in his early 50's, and Lillian became a widow at 47 during the decade following their deaths. Surviving her spouse by 39 years, she joined him and her parents in the Schurmann Family Plot after her death at age 87 in 1958.
